31st January 2009 Snowpiel - here is the first of many posts covering the BIG DAY!

A great day was had by all; good curling, good company, good food and plenty to drink. As usual a splendid effort by the hosts, Jamie and Nancy; it seems to get better every year. Maybe there will actually be a proper sponsor one year. Probably these guys........as much was drank!!!

So this first 'post-
snowspiel' post will get right down to the 'nitty-gritty' and later ones will be a little bit more themed with pics from the games, merriment and beast eating (a 7 rib prime-rib).

The teams were sorted and posted around 12.30pm and the first game was played at 1pm. The weather was cold so few spectators were out until later when it warmed slightly.

Team 3 were the first to feel the cruel bite of a back-to-back schedule meaning they were out there in -20c conditions for 2 hours! It's thought this ability to stand up to these frigid conditions is what made team 3 the team to beat.

Teams played 3 games each in a 4 team 'round-robin'.

Each game consisted of an hour's play (usually 4 ends) and points were awarded for rocks, ends won and ends played and -2 points should the 'convener' run dry of alcohol - this was probably not such a good idea (see later posts for those pics!).

So after some of this......

The winners of the 2009 Snowspiel final between Team 1 Skipped by Sonny and Team 3 (originally Team 2 on score sheet) Skipped by Josh was TEAM #3 'Go Reds!'

Jamie presents the trophy to Team 3 (from L to R) Josh, Chris, Maha and Martha.

Well done Team 3!

*All pics will be uploaded to Facebook later today, look out for posts later that will let you know how to get there.

Invitations have been sent; teams being formed.

Invitations have been sent out and teams are being formed; tension mounts! Yes, it can only be the start of preparations for the 2009 Snowspiel located in a secret location in Montreal; more specifically, BAIE-D'URFÉ.

This blog is the place where the photos, information and other trivia about the event will be found. There was an unfortunate hiccup last year with a technical problem with the camera so this is the first record sin
ce Snowspiel 2007 and NYE Curling 2008

Jamie has promised to take pics of all the preparation which star
ts today (9th Jan).

So the details are as follows:

Date of the event is 31st January
Format is same as previous events:
- Start 1pm
- 4 Team round robin.
- Dinner
- Finals
As always cost is a mere $15.00 per person and a bottle of wine would be nice as to not deplete Nancy's cellar.
If you haven't already; please confirm as soon as possible as this event sells out fast - first come first served, placed etc.

Rules remain same as previous year's rules - please read as no exceptions will be allowed.

...and of course it's really all about this....

Good luck y'all!
